I’ve bed-fished both ends of the spectrum, from double-digit bass on famous Lake Fork ‿where I guide ‿to very skittish 12-inch spotted bass on Beaver Lake and everything in between. One common problem I’ve encountered involves fish holding a little off the bottom (this also applies to fry-guarders).

Most anglers, pros included, look for any little edge to increase their catch, and that includes even the knots they tie to attach lures to their lines. With that in mind, picking the best knot to use with all of today’s lines can be a challenge.

Today’s sonar/GPS combos are so powerful, even the entry-level units are waaaay more advanced than what was available just a few years ago before we had GPS, SideScan or DownScan.

Poor Lake Barkley. It’s as spectacular as the Grand Tetons and nearly as vast and full of wildlife in and around it. With its 58,000 acres of ledges and shoreline cover packed with bass, Barkley would be the top tournament destination in most any other state. Except ‿there’s Kentucky Lake right next door.

It's hard not to feel snakebitten as a bass fisherman in the spring. Whether you're at a tournament, a film shoot, or just a weekend fun trip, it sure seems like a cold front always shows up when you do. We fishermen always curse our luck, yet I'm not sure why, since cold fronts regularly roll through in the spring every three to five days.
